Canvas vs. poster: which is better for your wall?
Art House ·
Both a canvas print and a poster can decorate a wall beautifully, but they are different products. Here is how they differ, so you can choose with confidence.
Material and texture
A canvas print is printed on fabric — at Art House, natural 100% cotton canvas. The weave has a fine, visible texture that gives the image the look of a painting. A poster is printed on paper with a smooth matte or glossy surface.
Frame and hanging
Canvas is stretched over a wooden frame and the image wraps around the sides — it hangs straight away, with no extra frame and no glass. A poster usually needs a frame with glass or acrylic so that it stays flat and protected.
Glare and light
With no glass in front, a canvas print does not reflect windows or lamps, so it reads well from any angle. A framed poster behind glass can catch reflections, especially on a wall facing a window.
When to choose which
- Canvas: for living rooms, bedrooms and offices; for art reproductions and family photos you want to keep for years; for large formats (60×90 cm and up).
- Poster: for temporary decor, a very tight budget, or when you want to swap images often in the same frame.
If you choose canvas, look at the material (natural or synthetic), the inks and the frame. We use cotton canvas, water-based odourless hypoallergenic inks and a kiln-dried wooden frame.
